Moods of Ilaiyaraaja

The earlier one was “How to Name it”, and now, here, we have

Nothing But Wind

A collection of themes picked from 18 films and yes, you may guess the films. Most of them are hugely popular themes.

Dude, Jhootha Hi Sahi album is out. Care to write a review of it. Eagerly Awaiting.

P.S. Suresh Kumar said...

There are no music cues from first 2 films you mentioned.

Hathim - Heard and liked "Cry Cry". Haven't heard any of the other songs from "Jhoota Hi Sahi" yet. Will listen to them only after I buy the CD. I don't know if I would write a review.

Though the themes are very familiar and I hum along, I am not able to recollect the movies just like that other than Gopura Vaasalile. Will try all that later, but I just cannot stop listening to the collection. 10 minutes of unadulterated bliss :) Thank you so much for compiling this!

Idhayathai Thirudathey, Paneer Pushpangal, Pazhassi Raja, Thalapathy, Agni Nakshatiram, Aan Paavam, Naan Kadavul, Soorasamharam, Thooral Ninnu Pochu, Raja Parvai

Many of them seem so familiar, but can't place them. In any case, I just gave it a shot...I'm sure there are many that not correct.

Hi Suresh...
Great compilation.. A first glance brings the following obvious answers to mind..

- Geetanjali
- Thalapathi (Flute from the word "Pidichchirukku" ..? )
- Idhayam
- Aanpaavam
- Gopura Vaasalile Titles
- Ninaivellam Nithya's kanda chaapu theme
- Vanna Vanna Pookkal's unorthodoxy 16 beat Title
- VetriVizha Titles
- Singaravelan Titles

With Love
Vicky

And if I didn't mention it earlier, I'm pretty certain you also had the Ninaivellam Nithya love theme.

P.S. Suresh Kumar said...

Shankar - //I'm sure there are many that not correct.// - Yes.

But, hey, you atleast tried. Probably, it is tough because of the length of each piece, and all of them come in quick succession one after the other. I kept them short to fit all the pieces into a 10-minute track.

P.S. Suresh Kumar said...

Vicky - Great job. Themes from all the films you mentioned are there in the compilation. There are themes from 5 other films.

P.S. Suresh Kumar said...

Vicky - I must also admit that your "Flute Sonatas" of Raaja blogpost inspired this Nothing but Wind compilation.

I definetly heard

Anweshana -Telugu (Paadum Paravaigal in Tamizh?)
Geetanjali/Idayathai Thirudaade
Agni Natchatram
4 more familiar, can't recall the names

I don't see many movies, so I am weak...

Chaya

P.S. Suresh Kumar said...

Chaya - Yes there are pieces from the 3 films you mentioned. And, though, you answered only 3, you got 2 films which no one else did so far..

Hello Suresh,
Here are the names I got in my first listening. There are a few BGMS which though I've listened before couldn't recall their movie names. For others, I never haven't heard of them before. (I'm a Telugu).

1) heard(H) - can't recall(CR)
2) H- CR
3) Geetanjali
4) never heard (NH)
5) Pithamagan
6) Thalapathi
7) Hridayam (Idhayam in Tamizh?)
8) NH
9) H - CR
10) Gopura Vasalile
11) NH
12) H-CR
13) NH
14) Maarugo Maaruga
15) NH
16) H- CR
17) NH
18) sounds like Maasi Maasam song

All the above BGMS with the flute along with Guitars (including bass) sounds really pleasant and great, especially Gopura Vasalile and Maarugo Maaruga. All these BGMs are so simple. One would feel that composing is so easy.
Also for flute themes, you can look for April 1 Vidudhala and Rudraveena.

Astithan - Whatever you guessed are right except the last one. I will check "April 1 Vidudhala" and "Rudraveena" BGMs.

The very few that I could manage with the timing in which they start -
1:02 - Sethu
1:50 - Idhayam
2:48 - Aan paavam (WHAT a score!!)
3:32 - Gopura Vaasalile
4:44 - Ninaivellam Nithya

The ones starting at 7:07 and 7:32 are eating my brains out, I know that I know them, but just unable to name the films. cha!!

P.S. Suresh Kumar said...

Nithya - Except the one at "1:02", the other four films you guessed are correct. However, it is really intriguing to know that you thought piece (starting from 1:02) is from the film you mentioned. You will know why when I post the answers. :-)
