Aaranya Kaandam Background Score

Aaranya Kaandam is a Yuvan Shankar Raja Musical. This film cannot be what it is without this score. The background score is intrinsically woven into the design of the visual narrative. The film throws up a challenge for a composer and Yuvan Shankar Raja lives totally up to it and How! I do not remember the last time I heard so many different genres of music in the background score of one film (Thiruda Thiruda?). And yet none of them sounds alien to the film’s universe. There are distinct themes for all principal characters of the film. The themes do not undergo many variations through the course of the film, but recur aptly at the right moments. However, the main theme of the film is a Chord and not any melody. Yuvan Shankar Raja is in a hugely exciting phase of his career. He is the only composer in Tamil Cinema now, whom all kind of filmmakers approach for all kinds of films (low or a high budget, stars or no stars, commercial or art). He cleverly caters to each of their demands in the way they ought to be. Now, for Aaranya Kaandam score, Yuvan Shankar Raaja, Take a Bow and release the Soundtrack CD as you promised me on twitter.

Thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The main theme seems inspired from Yumeji's score from "In the mood for love". The tempo is different.

"The War" track sounds similar to "The Corrs" track

Anonymous said...

This film has traditional sounds of many european countries which is why there is an irish feel or English country feel in the war theme which is ultimately equivalent to Corrs

P.S. Suresh Kumar said...

Anonymous - As long as the themes are "similar" or "seems to be inspired from", i don't bother. Hope there are no blatant lifts like the one in 7G, Rainbow colony.

Anonymous said...

There were no blatant lifts in 7G RC

Shreyas said...

IMHO, The War seems to be taken from another song. Some of the BGMs in the movie seem to be already used in the film Pudupettai as BGMs.

P.S. Suresh Kumar said...

Anonymous - The main theme of 7G Rainbow Colony is the theme composed by Michael Nyman for a film called "The Piano".

P.S. Suresh Kumar said...

Shreyas - True. It is exactly the interlude of "Un mela aasaidhaan" song from Selvaraghavan's Aayirathil Oruvan. But, beautifully re-arranged to suit the mood of the scene in this film.

Shreyas said...

Yes exactly along with some parts of mounam pesiyadhe theme. It def is blended well to suit the situation.

Anonymous said...

@shreyas i guess u have not heard the pudhupettai score so far...be specific on which bGm u feel to be repeated..

Anonymous said...

and un mele aasadhaan was a direct lift from ada vaa vaa asthala from sarvam, the tune was composed for AI initially but after the feud selva wanted a similar one....So give credit when it s due....If the same would have been done by ARR or HJ people will claim it s high class and all....Even the Oscar winner ARR is no saint...he has blatantly lifted many tunes.....

P.S. Suresh Kumar said...

Anonymous - Yes. Did I say Yuvan copied the tune from Un mela aasadhaan. I knew that it is his composition.

Anonymous said...

It's not the theme music of 7GRC (Walking through the rainbow) but another music that comes a few times in the film, it's a very small bit.

Anonymous said...

@suresh it was not you, my response was to shreyas who said the bgm is copied and all, i jus mentioned what the fact was...no hard feelings

P.S. Suresh Kumar said...

anonymous - Cool :-) i didn't have any...

really YUVAN shankar rocks in the bgm ,I dont know y people like the 10 tunes only music director (hariis jeyaraj)than that of versatile YUVAN shankar KING.U rock yuvan .Plz release the bgm separately in CD

Aditya Radhakrishnan said...

Please compare 'The War' to the interlude music in the song "Un Mele Aasadhan" from Aayirathil Oruvan at 1:13. Either a blatant lift (or more likely, both composers using some stock musical piece in Apple Logic Pro)...

What a Back score .....Thanks Ji.......

Nice job..

If this doesn't get the National Award next year or not even a close contender, there is no justice left in this country.

The impact of this score is more than any other recent movie of Yuvan, or for that matter any other movie, because of the long-long dry spells of silence in between the drizzles of music.

Watched it today. Really awesome movie and awesome bgm.

Yuvan is too good!

Thanks for this.. The one thing that i did immediately after coming back from the movie was to search for the bgms and i have got it. Thanks a bunch !!!

Kannan said...

dear Aditya Radhakrishnan,
(techincally) Unmela Aasadhaan is by Yuvan only. Yuvan had composed some of the bits for Aayirathil Oruvan, when he was still part of the movie.

Suresh Kumar - Which piece in 'the piano' ? . i've listened to most tracks...there is no resemblance

i think flamenco fight is inspired from i think one of jesse cooks guita piece..may be havana

P.S. Suresh Kumar said...

Anonymous - You have got some perseverance in proving a point, that Yuvan is a copycat. I must say that you nailed atleast one, that 'All is Well' one.

Bhaskar said...

If you think like this, I'm sure every single piece of music (not only in this film!) would sound like inspired/unoriginal. The All is well's track sounds similar to the one posted, but I'm sure we can find many more such tracks. And also Yuvan's tracks sounds more Latin American with dark shades, the posted one produces the exact opposite. This is totally nutty.

YUVAN ALWAYS ROCKS, HE DOESN'T INSPIRE OTHERS, AND HE IS THE ONLY ONE...SHOULD NOT OR CANNOT BE COMPARED WITH ANYONE, ALSO HE IS BOUNDLESS & GLOBAL

dbabu_09 said...

YUVAN THE YOUNG MAESTRO,..........PLS TRUE MUSIC LOVERS DON,T COMPARE HIM WITH ANY ONE

yuvan is a thousand times better than harris ,g v prakash kumar.every composer in his/her beginning stage will get inspired or way too much inspired by the orignal piece that they want to use it as a variation in their composing movies and then they grow out from that stage and turn out to produce brilliant and extraordinary originals.the best example is illayaraja. western clssical composers also compose variations of some other instrumental piece and add to their originals.its called cadenza or tail piece.beethoven wrote cadenza of mozart piano concerto no 20 k466.1st movement.you can hear it in you tube...
what im saying is yuvan is growing out to be as such one composer who is in the budding stage as an original composer.
in the mean while the plagiarism for GVP in his latest.theiva thirumagal which itself is a copy of the movie "i am sam".the song goes like pa pa the original is here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-mByTnigJM
GVP is the worst because he uses almost the entire song.example keith urban song in vellithirai..one song in va quarte cutting..evrone one know about harris...my blog name is hitherto.

kman said...

None of these were copied at all. Some of them might be a little inspired.First of Yuvan is not a copycat, he is a genius. Just amazing work!

YUVAN is LORD of MUSIC, this is a great music ever heared from other music directors.

Shareef S M A said...

@deepak t: its listed in IMBD under its english title Anima and Persona. Check the below link.

www.imdb.com/title/tt1496729/

whether he inspired, or lifted blatantly or whatever, I could call this as Yuvan's best to date. Suits very well to the tone of the movie..
